Need quick advice on rainbow fish going downhill

Hi, I have heard that most rainbowfish have very narrow throats and sometimes they will choke on food or get something lodged in there. Not sure if this is the case with your rainbowfish. It wouldn't hurt to try feeding him pea soup (a skinned pea, nuked for about 30 seconds). Squish the pea...

    do fish.. bruise?

Hey Sudz, Congratulations on your purchases. I hope the fish is ok. On a side note, if you have adequate space, both the cherry barbs and rainbowfish would prefer to be in a group totaling at least 5 (preferably 7 or more). Just a thought. :)

    BETTA EMERGENCY!!! Betta dying :(:(

you may want to lower the water level or bring Betta closer to surface to make it easier for him. It sounds like he may have a fungus but I don't know what meds to suggest off the top of my head. Hopefully others will chime in. Good luck and sorry he's sick. :( If he does pull through...

low maintaince tank for grandmother -- help?

Corys prefer to be in groups of 3 or more....does she already have 2 snails? If not, just get 1 snail, 3 cories and the 2 platys. That should be fine on the bio-load. Adding hardy plants will help. I wouldn't add anything to altar the chemistry too much....but others may know more about that.

Thanks, everybody for the reassurance! I may even get some more buddies for Speedy and plop 'em all in the big tank. Then the 10g tank will be "bachelor pad" for a lucky betta.

    Ivory Snail for dinner?

Thank you all for the responses. I remember back when I had my first tank about 5 years ago, I had a mystery snail in with some tetras (I think)... and they sucked his body out of his shell. :( It was quite traumatic. I may try putting Speedy in the big tank and keep an eye on him... Thanks...

    Ivory Snail for dinner?

Hi folks, I have a quick snail question. Would it be ok to move Speedy (my ivory snail) into my 46g tank with Rainbowfish, cherry barbs and a Pleco? I've heard some fish will eat Ivory snails, but I have not found specific details on the fish listed above. Does anyone have personal experience...

    Perplexing choice

Short term - buy some rubber maid bins and distribute the goldies accordingly....(assuming you have a way of filtering them, etc.)

    Your oldest fish!

I still have one of my original fish, a red cherry barb named Pete. I think I've had him about 5 years. He actually looks like an old man but he's still quite fiesty and thinks he's a pleco. (He hangs out at the veggie clip with my pleco....pretty much ignores flake food) :)
