    Apple Snail Question

A follow-up: I found the reason they press the doors in is to make it easier to for the snail to travel. It was put on the instructions they have for packing the snails. I nicely told them that it could harm the snail if pressed to hard or too far. Thank You all!

    Apple Snail Question

Thank you for the quick reply. I am glad that I asked. The mom and pop shops don't do that, just the pet stores. Next time I go in I will ask them to see why.

    Apple Snail Question

Hello All, I have gotten many Apple(Mystery) Snails from a couple a pet stores in the area. I have noticed that the employees close the operculum or trapdoor of the shell and pressed it far inside the shell. It looks like it could be harmful to the snail if the person presses too far in. Is...

    Help With ID

Hello All, A few weeks ago I received some guppies from my lfs. It wasn't until I got everyone accumulated that I noticed one of them wasn't a guppy. My lfs thought it was a rasbora. The only thing I found close was the Emerald Eye Rasbora, but it still doesn't look right. So I thought I...

    Sand and Soil Question

I have been bouncing around this thought about putting dirt/soil in my tanks. I have sand in all my tanks but 2, they have gravel and river rocks. I have mostly amazon swords and water sprites(best plant ever!) for the ground level plants. The only thing stopping me is that my 26 bowfront has...

    Cories

I have to share this with you guys. My mom and I went to a lfs we haven't been to for a long while. They had all sorts of angels, bass, and all sorts of saltwater items. I was looking for some guppies and julii cories. In this 15gal they had to have about 50 albino cories, I was thinking they...

    Just found a snail!

They are a great way to find out if you are over feeding your tank. I consider them rather cute, they clean up dead plant materal and algae, and their free! Though I've never seen a pleco eat a snail? If they do become overwhelming just cut the food down or get a couple of assassin snails. ;)

    Just found a snail!

Sounds like a harmless little pond snail. As long as you don't over feed your tank their population won't explode. I use them in my fry tanks cus they eat all the leftover foods and clean the algae of my plants and glass. My bettas and assassin snails make them little snacks too. ;)

    Gournami Question

Wow, never seen a female DG at any at mine lfs. Recently most of the fish at this store are in bad shape. I think since they don't QT new fish, dieases spread like wildfire. These guys have had sunken in stomaches, only one of them look halfway decent. Thanks for sating my curiousity. :)

    Gournami Question

Was at my lfs tonight, got a couple plants and another nitrite snail ;) Found this little one with two others in the dwarf gournami tank. There were no stripes on it just a slivery color with a hit of gold/yellow. Two of them looked kinda sickly, one was just bouncing around. They were rather...

    Finally, my first driftwood!

I have to say that's not a bad deal with the shrimp. 10 of my ghost shrimp cost me about $5. If you really want to put a betta in the tank make sure its the last fish to go in. This is what I do when betta shoppin-Bring a pencil and put up to the cup or tank. If the betta flares or is scared...

    Finally, my first driftwood!

I just love Cherry shrimp! Wish I could get some in my area. Crawfishes can be aggressive, known for eating smaller fish.

    Finally, my first driftwood!

Bettas are a hit and miss in a community tank. Just make sure to have a backup plan if it goes south.

    Finally, my first driftwood!

I agree with the pleco, their bioload is high and you want a 20+ gallon tank for BNs. What about a couple of nitrite snails?

    Creek Sand Usable?

Well, I know for a fact that its not pollution. Its more of a natural oil most likely from the volcano. Where ever you go up their its the same, a sandy soil. The nurseries actually put farmed rainbow and brown trout all thru out the creeks so people don't over fish. So I wonder if its all that...

    Creek Sand Usable?

My grandparents have a cabin up by our Lassen Valcano. They have a creek running on their edge of the property. I've gotten some nice driftwood and twigs from this creek. But it has some grayish/brown sand I woul love to use. My grandparents have said that there is some type of oils in this...
