    Nano Protein Skimmer?

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll keep you posted on what I get and how it works! I think I might go the route of the air stone, since it sounds like it works better, plus the noise would be undesirable (the tank is in the corner of my bedroom - don't want that air pump noise all the time!) -matt

    Nano Protein Skimmer?

Hi guys, I was wondering about your thoughts on a Nano skimmer. I saw it in my Foster and Smith catalog this morning. Here's the summary of my Nano adventures so far. I have a 12g Nano, for a few years now. For about a year, I struggled with fish. I went through 2 clownfish  , who...

When to change lights in Nanocube

Hey guys, I am wondering how often the lights in my Nanocube should be changed. It's a 12g, I have zooanthinds and mushrooms in there, and some crabs and snails. There's currently no fish, I lost my clown about 6 months ago, and am debating whether to just wait for fish until I upgrade to...

    Help with Plant-Like ID

Hey guys, This bunch of little plant looking stuff appeared a few months ago in my tank as a few strands. Now it looks like the attached picture. Does anyone have an idea what this is? Should I try to get rid of it? TIA, matt

    Green Bubble Algea

Hello, Does anyone have recommendations on how to get rid of green bubble algea? I've got a few colonies popping up in my tank, I can tell they're starting to spread. Thanks!

    Two IDs with one pic!

thanks for the quick reply on the IDs! For the hydroids, I read over that link you sent, some of those pictures definitely look the same. I saw that the link said to manually extract them. Yet some of the replies said to be very careful because they may be harmful to the touch (such as stinging)...

    Two IDs with one pic!

Hey guys, I've had this tank setup for about 1 1/2 years, and these brown guys have started popping up on some of my live rock. They look like small zooanthids almost. They're near the top of the photo, and slightly out of focus, but hopefully it's good enough. Also, there's a...

    Selcon Dosing

Hi all, I recently got some Selcon for my fish, I was just wondering if anyone has recommendations on how often to use it? I have a 12g nano, and do regular water changes (about every 1 1/2 weeks). TIA, matt

    Garlic & Selcon question

Hey guys, I have read multiple times in here how people use garlic and selcon to boost the immune system of their fish. Does anyone have recommendations of what brands of either of these or maybe where to get them on-line? I've never used either of these, so I could use some input. I'll...

    Copperband Butterfly Advice

Hello, I'm upgrading to a 75g now, and was thinking of the fish I'd like to have in it. One of my favorites that I've come across in my research is the Copperband Butterfly fish. I plan to do a reef setup, and these guys seem to be reef safe, so I like the sound of that. I was telling my...

now the boyfriend wants a tank...

If you want to spoil him as a good girlfriend.... :) J/K - but once you graduate and have a job, it'll be one of your first big investments. Trust me - that's what happened to me! Just let him go and gawk at the fish store now and then to help satifsy the saltwater cravings!

    Going VHO vs MH

I'm currenly setting up my 75g, and I think I'm going to go with the VHOs myself. The MH scares me a bit with the heat. And I don't think my canopy is going to end up being that high off the water for the MH. With the VHOs, should I just go with 4 of them, 2 actinic white and 2 blue? What...

    Raising Salinity

Just make sure to do it slowly, I lost a shrimp and crabs when I first started the hobby last year by trying to bring my salinity up too fast. I've seen recommendations to change it by about .001 per week. Better safe than sorry, is how I look at it! Good luck, matt

    Benefits of an overflow

Hey guys, I'm about to get my 75g saltwater set up, and I was curious about overflows. At my LFS, I was shown some tanks which had a piece of glass near the back, that created a compartment area in the back of the tank. (This ran the entire length and height of the tank). This is where...

how can I get clear pictures of tank with a digital camera

I have a Sony Cybershot as well, the 5.1 MP. Like the previous post said, make sure you use the macro mode - it allows you much closer shots in focus. I'm not sure how much you've played with your camera, so forgive me if I insult you camera intelligence ;) .... but as you're getting ready to...

    Protein Skimmers

I have a quick question: For those links to the skimmers, i noticed the ES5-2 says it's for use "up to 75g" capacity. Does this mean that if I'm planning to use a 30g sump on the 75g tank i'm currently setting up, that this skimmer won't have a big enough capacity. Would I need something with a...
