    pH color issues

It has been sitting all night. I filled the tank up halfway, I was planning to fill it up the rest of the way with the old tank water. Id say it sat for about 12 to 14 hours before i did the test.

    pH color issues

So I'm upgrading from a 40g breeder to a 75g. Had cichlids but now I'm going for a community. I live in NC, so I know my tap water is more on the alkaline side, but for some reason my old tank's water is softer than my tap water. This concerns me because I have Petco zebra rock (pictures will...

    Filter swapping, switching and replacing

I got my 55g tank with a TopFin 75 filter. The noise is horrendous. About two and a half months ago I installed a Fluval 306 canister. How safe is it to remove the top fin filter completely? The tank finished cycling a few weeks ago and I currently have a light bioload (6 small cichlids and a...

How to get oil off of aquarium net?

Had to get the sticky residue from a thermometer off of my glass, so I used oil to get it off. It was a little oil in a shot glass, but it somehow fell over and spilled onto the middle length of my net.. The part where the metal is twirled around itself. How do I clean this off (without...

    Help with DIY brick stand

Hey so i'm not a fan of the flimsy wooden (and costly) stands in my local stores, so I decided to make one. I'd just like confirmation on whether it's a good idea. It's a 55gallon tank, dimensions L 12.75 W 48.25 H 20.19. The plan is to use twelve 8x8x16 concrete bricks with holes vertical in...

    ID for... A yellow lab?

I believe I bought two yellow labs, but in reading the description of the species, I have one without any black area on it's fins at all. Pic below... It wouldnt stay still for a pic, but you can see the body. Is this some sort of other species?

Cold water... Hot water... Seems like it doesn't matter

I live in the Caribbean, and in my country the average temperature is usually 26 °C (78.8 °F). It never snows or has extreme heat, and i've never, ever, seen anyone using heaters on their tanks. People keep goldfish and koi and they're fine, same temperature as the tanks they keep tropical fish...

Stocking! No more darn torpedo fish...

It seems like all the fish for aquariums 22g and under are all torpedo-like schooling fish. If you don't understand google zebra danio. Now it's fine, as I have zebra danios and corydoras and a guppy... But dannngg. At first glance my 22g tall looks completely empty. They don't fill any space...

    Bristlenose... Or common...?

Yeah most definitely, when I get the new tank i'm breaking down this one, so all the gravel and filters are moving over. How will I know if it's a BN? It's maybe about 3 inches right now. Has dark skin and white polka dots (not ich).

    Bristlenose... Or common...?

Yeah he's in there very temporarily. Alrighty, I was reading that commons have no signs of horns or anything. Was just curious cause of his/her abnormality haha. Oh and this tank is ridiculously temporary :D Getting a new tank delivered... If the lazy fish people remembered to place the order...

    Bristlenose... Or common...?

I bought a pleco a few weeks ago and since the LFS just had them en masse and under a single name (local to where I live, we just call em Taters), I just chose one. I was under the impression it is most likely a common pleco, but as far as I understand it shouldnt have ANY bristles. This guy...

    Bizzare Neon Tetra Behaviour

Thanks >_< I guess I can try to buy a few more to up the numbers, but the appeal of the neon tetra is almost gone haha. I started fishkeeping solely to keep them but i'm finding love in other fish now. :flowers::fish2: Ill try disassembling the cave and scare them into a school for now, as i...

    Bizzare Neon Tetra Behaviour

I got 8 neon tetras maybe two months ago? And at first they schooled and swam around in a ball no bigger than a tennis ball, but now they just reversed their usual neon habits... One neon tetra has become territorial. Yes, territorial. He claimed a cave I made out of rock and will chase any and...

    Water Change

Here's a picture of the one I use: (I used two airline tubes, for more suction and faster siphoning :P)

    Water Change

Hey Matt. To do a water change most people typically remove 20% of their water weekly, this is done with a removal device of some sort, then the water is replaced with conditioned water. As far as vacuuming: For such a small tank you'll need airline tube, and another tube that is substantially...

    Air pump "tee" issues

I set up my air pump above my 11g and my 5g, and used a "t" joint close to the pump unit. It's only pumping air through to one aquarium... How can I stop this and even it out?

    Albino Corydoras...

I guess i'm a bad fishkeeper, but I was moving tanks soon and I'm wondering if Albino Cories can be kept as a pair. I have two in my 11g, and im building a 22g tall(ish) very soon. People say that they get lethargic and shy and all that if not in a school... But mine are RIDICULOUSLY active...

    Tankmates for corycat

Cory's are known for their peacefulness. And since they're bottom dwellers, I'd say get some mid-top tank swimmers. :)

Using stones from an old saltwater for your freshwater?

My older brother had a saltwater tank but he had to strip it down for some reason. Everything is off and it's had a little water in it for months, and I'm looking for rock decor for my tank, but i am not sure if I can use those rocks, as I know tetras and plecos are sensitive to any salt in the...
