    Black Spot?

Black marks on goldfish usually mean one of two things, either natural color change which is perfectly ok, or ammonia burns. Ammonia burns that show as black or dark brown on goldfish is a sign of healing, and the fish could have been exposed to ammonia as long as 3 weeks previously before the...

    Goldfish and salt.

Goldfish can handle salt very well in smaller amounts. For treating diseases such as costia it is common to use up to .9% salt for short periods, however anything over .3% is very stressful to them.

    How many Angels.....

The guide for adult angels is 10 gallons apiece. In my experience it is best to follow that as a minimum, although you could probably add a few otos to your tank for clean up as they aren hard on the bioload.

female gourami bullying and a female betta question too

Usually there is agression issues between the two, but it really does depend on the individual fish, as i have personally known some people to mix them with success for years. Your other questions I am unable to answer though sorry...

Mixing Fish Most People Say Are Incompatible

Once fully grown that red slider will attempt to eat those fish, as fish to them= lunch.

    Fish hypochondriac? LoL

I have obsessive compulsive disorder, and my main compulsions have to do with doing excessive amounts of water changes and observing and stressing over every little thing with my fish. :?

    TB EMERGENCY

That is symptoms of many conditions. The slimyness could be from a ph crash among other things, the skinnyness could be from a variety of parasites, the hump could be lordosis caused by malnutrition, birth defect, or electrocution. There are other possible causes, and conditions as well besides...

    Which Algae Wafer to buy??

Just thought i'd point out something... whether a algae wafer is the best depends on which species it is for, and whether you use it as a "staple" or not. Omega one is excellent for most pleco species that are omnivorous, but becauase it contains animal matter is unsuitable for a daily diet for...

Too many fish... and does size matter?

Koi, usually grow to 24+ inches. Usually Fancy varieties of goldfish anywhere from as little as 4 inches (siamese dolls, and often celestial eyes, and bubble eyes stay fairly little), to up to 14 inches. Normal single tailed goldfish (excluding tamasabas, and nymphs), and wakins, usually get...

    TB EMERGENCY

If you truely think it is tb, you will be forced to put the whole tank under quarantine for at least a year, in order to notice if any of your other fish die from similar deaths. if they don't after a year, then it it relatively safe to add fish, or remove those that you have and expose them to...

Too many fish... and does size matter?

Yes krap that is a general minimum guide for goldfish kept in an aquarium. It is different for a pond, since it can be difficult to always be doing LOTS of water changes in order to keep water quality where it should be. (Ponds still should have regular water changes, just like aquariums however...

    angels like veggies?

Angelfish are omnivorous, leaning towards eating food from animal sources preferably, but they will benefit from, and enjoy a bit of veggie food now and then. :)

Too many fish... and does size matter?

I agree 250 gallons per koi is a good guide. I wouldnt ever stock at more than 1 per 100 gallons, and preferably would give at least 500-1000 gallons apiece to get good growth, and make maintenance not so difficult, needing to do as many water changes on the pond and such.

    10 gal suggestions?

I personally feel as a permanent home for a betta, that at least 3 gallons should be a rule. Although i have to admit, that as a kid, i had a couple bettas live over 5 years in a 1 gallon bowl. My cousin has a 7 year old one in a 2 gallon. As for the ten gallon, Guppies, mollys, endlers, white...

What is eating holes in my fish?...BAD!

Very very true!, which is why it is best to have both on hand. In a pinch if you dont have medfeed containging it, a simple gelatine set food with it added can be easily made (it works very well).

What kind of fish food should I get???

Bernie: I was also told that ethoxyquin is added to about 80% of "fish meal", but I then emailed hikari directly about this practice and they said they no longer use fish meal containing it. Yes I agree that could have been a load of ****, and thank you for bringing that up. But even so if they...

    Background

duh  i Should have remembered that, that is the stuff my uncle used, though he broke it into different shapes and interlocked them together to give it a more textured look. Thanks Rocket 2001.

    Background

The slate that my uncle mounted to his tank, if i remember right, was sort of put together like puzzle pieces, he had all different shapes. I remember it took him months to get it done, so for sure it would take a lot of effort, and possibly time. I think i'd probably practice on a little tank...

What is eating holes in my fish?...BAD!

a good medicated feed with the active ingredient of metro (medicated foods work better than puting it in the water) is "metromeds", which can be bought at either www.goldfishconnection.com, or www.fishsempai.com.

    Background

That brings up a good point in regards to algae. Some people leave the back pane of the glass to grow algae. Green, natural looking, and it helps eat up nitrates. :)

    tubifex cubes

Freeze dried tubifex are quite messy, but i have been known to feed them a few times a year to most of my fish. There is a risk of transmitting bacteria to your freshwater fish with these (and other freeze dried foods that come from freshwater such as bloodworms). These types of harmful bacteria...

    Background

I don't bother with backgrounds anymore personally, as its just more hassle... rather i just put a whole bunch of houseplants behind most of my tanks. :P But when i did: I used all the different ones that are commercially sold, except the 3d types..which admitedly can look very good in the...

    Poll on pH

Yes 9. sometimes as low as 8.6, and sometimes as high as 9.5, but it always is stable at 8-8.2 after 24 hours. The water here is a bit hard but not considered liquid rock. Both kh and gh stay about 70ppm each. Very soft in comparison to my last residence where the tap water had a kh of 500ppm...
