thats a male cacatuodes .. if you are going to breed, consider getting a 10gal. You can set up a pair in there and then have the fry grow and move them when they are ready..

If your tank is an adequate size, yes. I've done it before, a few times.. and what I would suggest to you, is to rearrange your decor and add a few small terra cotta pots in your tank. This will allow the fish to setup new territories , hiding spots and your fish should get along fine. hth.

well patience finally payed off and my pair of triple full red dwarf cichlids(apistogramma cacatuoides) have eggs in one of the terra cotta pots. Can't wait to see them hatch.. some things I'll be pickin up at the store tomorrow: sponge for filter intake, and some java moss . I got hikari...

read your other post about meds.. so salt is the safer way.. how bout i put him in a bucket with his own tank water, some salt, for 20-30 minutes? I have aquarium salt.. the bucket is three gallons. the fish is about 3 inches, how much salt you think?

when he faces the back of the tank, i can see the side view and the spot stickin out a little, and that's when it looks more cottony.. i will get a pic up asap, right now he's suckin on a cichlid pellet and he is camera shy when he eats.. looks to be about 2 centimeters in diameter..sorta...

So i notice this "spot" about a week ago, and it looked like it was a small cut, or scratch..but it was tiny..now its at least trippled in size! please help me figure out what to do. It's looks like it has a "cotton" texture... my tank parameters are ALL normal. all 0's for the bad stuff.. 10...

im thinking you need more watts on your heater.. at least 200, or 2 heaters- one on each side- 100 or 150 a piece. Aqua Clear filters would be a first choice for a hob filter.. but a canister would be the best! Fluval-(verygood) or Eheim(best :) good luck

the problem with having cories in a tank with dwarf cichlids , at least ime, is that they both like to stay around the bottom of the tank. My apistos are peaceful , but the one male ar the time, killed 4 cories . my dwarf cichlids are territorial, and there is only mild aggression towards other...
