    parasites? mites?

That's a good point, mattcham. Now that I think about it, the same day I bought the plants, I also purchased a container of Omega One freeze dried brine shrimp. Think that could be the culprit?

parasites? (cross post from planted tanks)

Why thank you:). Actually - just a regular binocular microscope - used my iphone to take the photos. Have to get the lens the exact right distance from the eyepiece (just pick one of them). It does seem to decrease the magnification somewhat. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

parasites? (cross post from planted tanks)

Note: I am not completely sure the squashed one is the same organism as the others as I did not view it before putting on the coverslip. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

parasites? (cross post from planted tanks)

They are too small to photograph, I think. About the size of a grain of salt. They look dark on light surfaces and white on dark surfaces and while swimming. They are covering everything. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

parasites? (cross post from planted tanks)

I have a 40 gallon mature tank with an albino bristlenose pleco, cories and guppies. Two weeks ago I purchased a tube of 3 "parasite and pest-free" aquatic plants from PetCo. I noticed the water was getting cloudy, and saw some strange, circular missing areas in the light algae film on one of...

    Care for baby snails?

Baby mystery snails eat the same things the adults do: blanched vegetables & algae wafers (and algae off the sides of the tank). You can add Kent Marine liquid calcium. applesnail.net has a wealth of information on caring for baby mystery snails, and a wonderful snail discussion board...

    Mystery Snails

The general rule of thumb for mystery snails is one snail per 2.5 gallons.

    Large yellow snails

Go to applesnail.net - they have a lot of information on taking care of apple snails; best water parameters, appropriate tank mates, etc. They can be a lot more sensitive to things in the water than fish, and harder to keep healthy than most people realize - but worth it! You need at least 2.5...

    Snail people, i have a question. =P

Beautiful snails! They both look like mystery snails - your plants should be safe.

    Snail people, i have a question. =P

The best view is from the side, showing the spires - like the photo I attached. The snail eggs can vary in color. My mystery snail eggs start out white and then turn tan - but may be salmon or pink after a couple of days.

    Corys and gravel

Nice job on that tank! And great thread. This has inspired me to change to sand and get some cories - now that I know how to do it. How many pounds of sand did you end up using? Did you say that's a 20 tall (that's what I have)?

    Snail people, i have a question. =P

Chronos is right: The snails sold as gold Inca snails and mystery snails are almost always Pomacea diffusa (formerly known as Pomacea bridgesii) which is a type of apple snail that does not eat plants unless they are dead/decaying. If you post photos I can let you know for sure. They lay eggs...
