Weird brown slimy bubbly alage problem

So I just found this website on pest algae identifying. According to them and the pics it looks like what I'm dealing with is either a dinoflagellate or calothrix. I hope it's the later:( I'll keep posted what I'm going to do next about it. Here's a link to the site...

Weird brown slimy bubbly alage problem

Not sure on the mag levels, I'll look into a kit but it's not hair algae, the long brown strand breaks apart if u touch it and is connected to the other short brown slime. Could too much light (intensity and/or amount it's on) be causing this outbreak? It comes back weekly even after I've...

Regular PVC cement is completely safe to use on fish systems. I work on petstmart/Petco's filtration systems and there is a ton of PVC on those setups. Schedule 40 (regular white) PVC usually cures to hold joints in about 15 mins. Spa flex or flex PVC takes longer, close to an hour before you...

    ID please

Make sure u try feeding it small meaty foods (mysis, brine, etc) at least once a day. No zooxanthelle means no food for the little guy, so u need to supplement its food intake. It may not take food for awhile but u need to try, their chance's of survival go way up

Clowns not eating as much as before

Also if they keep spitting out their food you may be giving them too large of pieces, try breaking up the mysis really good next time. And wait a day or two before you feed again, let them get hungry and I'm sure their feeding response will be more aggressive

Clowns not eating as much as before

I wouldn't be too worried about it. As long as they don't look thin or show any signs of disease they should be fine. Clowns in a reef tank can survive with 2-3 feedings a week if the rock is healthy. They may be eating off of your live rock in between feedings especially since you have no other...

    Cycle completed?

Aragonite based sands are Have calcium carbonate in them and are made from crushed coral skeletons and snail/crab shells. Over time the sand slowly breaks down and releases calcium into the water which helps to naturally buff the water. The reason i aks is bcuz People who use silicate based...

    Cycle completed?

It will raise ph slightly, but best procedure is to do a water change and then add it. The super buffer works better at maintaining the level rather then raising it. Also, what kind of sand/gravel are you using in the low ph tank. Is it an aragonite based sand or silicate?

    Cycle completed?

Congrats on finishing your cycle! The best way to balance ph is use a two part buffer system. Like B-ionic part 1 & 2 or Kent's super buffer and turbo calcium. Using products like these regularly will maintain proper calcium, alkalinity, and ph levels when dosed correctly. If you're in a pinch...
