    my Diamond Tetra is MEAN!

Yes yes I know everyone should upgrade to a larger tank. That's easy to say when others aren't contributing 1) money 2) space 3) time. Nor do I know how to "re-home" a fish. I don't know anyone else with fish or a tank so I can't just go around asking my friends if someone would be willing to...

    my Diamond Tetra is MEAN!

Hmm...I don't know how to fix the problem then. Adding more tetra would then actually lead to an overcrowding problem. :(

    my Diamond Tetra is MEAN!

I've put a piece of plexiglass in there for now, but I'm worried that the side with my guppy isn't getting the proper filtration, even though there is space along the sides for water to flow through that the fish can't get through. Ugh.

    my Diamond Tetra is MEAN!

Do diamond tetras not get along well with others? I thought all types of Tetras were good for communities?

    my Diamond Tetra is MEAN!

Every other fish in this tank was FINE before the bully tetra came along and he is only chasing after one other specific fish. This has naught to do with overstocking.

    my Diamond Tetra is MEAN!

4 small fish is overstocked?? I know there are people on here who think 5 G tanks are like an abomination or something, but I had 5 fish in there previously who were fine.

    my Diamond Tetra is MEAN!

Hey gang, So in my 5 gallon tank I have a Golden Guppy, a Diamond Tetra and some neon Tetra. At first it was just the GG and the NT, but about a week ago I added the DT. Dude, my DT is MEAN. He keeps chasing the GG, and the GG hides in a corner behind this sponge that I have. When I moved the...

    Still cycling my new tank.

ARGH. I just did another test and Ammonia, Nitrates and Nitrate are all at zero. What can I put in this tankeroo to start building something? :(

    Still cycling my new tank.

Woo ok I shall address all of the questions! -I didn't test my tap water, no. -The only thing I did when I started the tank was ADD the ammonia to I guess start the cycle. I had also had a couple of goldfish die in there, lol. But I changed most of the water after that happened. -The water...

    Still cycling my new tank.

Ok I added about a dropper full of ammonia last night and here's where I'm at this morning. PH is good, at about 7.6. Ammonia is at 2ppm. Nitrites are at about .50ppm.

    Still cycling my new tank.

So I've had my 5 gallon tank for about 6 weeks. I've been going through the adding ammonia, cycling it without fish. Today I tested the ammonia and it was pretty low, so I thought I'd start testing for nitrites. The nitirites were also very low. So I thought hey maybe there are some nitrates to...

    I'm getting started

Ah cool thanks. It says I'd need .80 ML of the ammonia to reach 4ppm in a 5 gallon tank. It also says 5ppm recommended, which would require 1ML... Now to find something with which I cam measure .8-1ML of ammonia. Doh!

    I'm getting started

OK gang, so I'm getting ready to cycle my tank, after my disastrous bout with two goldfish last weekend (which you can read here) I'm following these instructions minus the bubble wand or a heater because I just don't have any more power outlets behind the tank. So I went out and got an API...

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

Yes, I know about the chlorine. I was just mentioning the chloramine fact. Either way, there's nothing I can do at this point, I suppose.

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

Nope, no bottled water unfortunately. But NYC tap water doesn't have any chloramine in it anyway.

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

Ok well, a 50 gallon tank isn't going anywhere inside my NYC apartment (not that I could afford to buy it anyway) and the water conditioner that came with the tank is all out and it's almost 1am here so I'm clearly not getting anymore anytime soon. So I guess this guy is a goner.

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

Ok that is less than a cup, so clearly you are still talking about 50 gallons.

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

OK, I'm just noticing that you live in Australia, so perhaps I've assumed wrong and you mean 50 grams and not gallons? I have no idea how much that is...I'll Google a conversion.

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

Hi, he's got just one tail so I guess he's a pond fish. I'm flabbergasted at this 50 gallon thing for one, small 3/4 of an inch goldfish, or even two of that size. That sounds nuts. This very website suggests the 1 inch rule, does it not? Anyways, there's not going to be a 50 gallon tank in my...

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

55 gallons??? For TWO goldfish (now one)?? I'm a newbie but I'm going to call shenanigans. I had 1-3 goldfish for years as a child in a tank just this size. I'm not talking a load of goldfish like at the pet store, I'm talking two goldfish here. The rule of thumb I always heard was 2.5 gallons...

New fish, new tank, fishy dead

OK folks, here goes. I haven't had a goldfish since I was maybe 7, and even then I remember them only living a couple of years. But here's my story: Day 1: Saturday night I went to a cheesy church fair and I won a goldfish playing that throw the ball in the bowl game. I brought him home, and...
