I guess its some kind of algea, I get it on my air stone too. One thing you could try is soak it in hot water. It always kills the brown algea I get on mine, turns green :wink: Then it seems to come out as soon as I plug it back in.

I've found a easy way to get rid of the algae of the plants. Take the bucket you use for water changes and fill it will really hot water. Then just let the plants sit in it for 10 minutes, give it a quick rinse and place back in the tank.
