    Tetracycline Mystery

So, one of the best medications I've come across for dealing with a wide array of fish maladies is Tetracycline, a cure-all for many bacteria-related issues. It's been used for years (my LFS owner says he's used it in his tanks for over thirty years). Yet now, I can't seem to find it anywhere...

    Interested in Kribensis, few questions

Most would say yes, but my experience has been that as long as the fishkeeper is diligent in feeding (i.e. not overfeeding) keeping up with his/her water changes, and not over-stocking tank size isn't that big an issue. But keep in mind that idea drastically changes when keeping a fish that is...

    Interested in Kribensis, few questions

I had a lone male in a 10 gallon along with a Black Skirt Tetra, Red Eye Tetra, Madagascar Rainbow, and a small school of Harlequin Rasboras. Note that the krib was the only fish that hung out in the lower strata of the tank - he was occasionally aggressive to anyone who swam into his plastic...

Saw it on a FostersSmith ad. First time I've ever seen one of these guys. Anyone know what it is?

    Crazy Corys Anonymous

The first post of this thread was enough for me to subscribe! When I'm feeling a bit more verbose I'll have to relate my observations made today when my new Brochis splendens met the resident Corydoras ambiacus in my 5-gallon.

    Idle Invertebrate Inquiry

I was just curious: what is it about invertebrates that makes them so sensitive to nitrates? :thanks: in advance for any and all responses.

Long Time Aquarist, New to the Forum World

Thanks for the greetings, guys! Okay, so N00b question: how do I turn off those google ads at the end of my posts? Kind of takes up unnecessary space in each thread...

Long Time Aquarist, New to the Forum World

Hello All, Been taking care of our piscine friends for almost 18 years now. Currently I have four aquariums going: a 10-gallon community, 5-gallon community, 35-gallon hex (more aggressive species - 2 Uaru, 1 Pseudacanthicus leopardus (L-114), 1 Siamese Algae Eater, 1 remaining Counterfeit...

    Fish id

Depends on the size of the tank, and how much you feed the chalceus. If it's a 75 gallon+ tank, you'll probably be fine. Anything smaller than that and I'd be somewhat worried. But then again, you might have a more passive specimen than your average chalceus... Roundabout way of saying just...

What is this weird growth in my tanks ?

Don't go the penny route. Using copper should be one of the last resorts, as it has the potential to cause an awful lot of collateral damage. I'd go with the gouramis and lessen the food load, and/or trim the offenders off the plants (if they haven't reached epidemic proportions).

    Blue Ram in 20 gal

The pH in your tank, regardless of the ammonia/nitrates/tankmates is also going to be a problem; German Blue Rams need a really low pH (lower than 7). Bolivian Rams, as has been said earlier in this thread, are hardier, and could probably stand a pH as low as 7.5. But an 8.0 pH is really not...

    Lost 2 panda cory :(

I'm torn as to whether that's sad or awesome. Sad that the pandas died... But good that you know it wasn't due to doing something you're supposed to (i.e. doing water changes). And awesome that you had one of the more fragile species survive past the egg stage.

    Ideas?

If you want to keep the parents, I'd try online sites to find a divider that's big enough for the tank. If they don't have them, a custom-sized piece of plexi-glass with holes drilled in would work just as well (and might even be cheaper). Most pet stores would take the parents in, but might...

    Lost 2 panda cory :(

I guess my question would be how often do you do a 50% water change. If that's the normal percentage that you take out, I guess that's fine, but I've had experiences where the fish have suffered from what I call "overcleaning" where the shock of cleaning so much of the nitrate/nitrite/ammonia...

    Pleco question

This exactly. I've found that the most notable inconsistency in their coloration happens right after I turn their light on for the day, but after a while their color returns to a more even distribution.

    Feeding yoyo loaches

My yoyo loach that I had for 4 years loved flakes (he seemed to prefer the TetraMin staple flake), sinking catfish pellets (to the point of being territorial with them when my poor gibbiceps pleco would try to get them), shrimp pellets, and freeze-dried tubifex worms. Also, mine never seemed to...
