No meds or other stuff have been added. I only dose a little ferts and traces. My fish are also fish friendly, rainbows, corys and oto cats.

    Snails & Eco Complete

:?: I like the big golden snails and like to keep large ones in my 90 gal tank, but since I've switched to Eco Complete I've had trouble keeping them going. There is plenty of algae for them on my back glass and I have alot of smooth rocks plus drift wood for them to cruise around on. My ph is...

    Glass Diffuser?

I like the Eheim diffuser (Aquariumguys.com). Its around $16 and has a ceramic disc that pops out for easy cleaning in bleach. The body of the diffuser is plastic, so there's nothing to break. I just wish I could get extra discs to have on hand. If one goes down the drain I'm screwed :-).

    Rainbow Fish

:?: I'm getting ready to restock an established 90 gal tank and I'm looking at a variety of rainbow fish. Can anyone share any experiences they've had with these fish, ph, water hardness, food ?

    Chinese Pleco

Yep, that's it!! Thanks for the I.D. It looks like this fish will work in my tank, so I think I go buy a couple tomorrow.

    Chinese Pleco

I was at my LFS today and saw a cool fish that they had labeled as a Flat Chinese Pleco. It was about 2" long and reminded me of a stingray. It had a light body color and very fine dark/black dots. No scientific was listed. Is anyone familiar with this fish and how big they might get? TIA, Caribou

Check Valve or Not on CO2 Pressurized System???

I use a check valve on the tank side of my bubble counter and have not seen any flow restriction. I have found that brands of check valves can really vary the flow rate, so you might try another brand. You definitely don't want any syphoning/backflow to get to your regulator. I have the same...

Where can I find some Malaysian Trumpet Snails?

If a fish store has MTS in serveral tanks, they'll usually give them to you free, especially if you you ask about them at the end of your transaction (other purchases) JME.

    Help!! MTS is striking again!

Going to live plants has really helped stabilized my MTS syndrome (notice the word stabilized, not cured). Its made the hobby so much interesting and challenging for me. Now i'm addicted to the little Priority Mail boxes that arrive weekly with the latest cool, weird or hard to find plant LOL !!

    Eco-Complete is a great substrate!!!

Eco-Complete is the way to go, especially if you're starting a new tank. Yes, its exspnesive, but once you have it you'll never look back. I think you could throw an old shoe into it and it would grow. I just wish i had it in my first tank!

need opinion on piece of wood

If possible boil your wood if it isn't too big for you largest pot. You'll be shocked how much oils and tannens can come out of the wood. If its a very thick heavy piece, I change my water a couple of times while cooking the wood. I use slate pieces to anchor my driftwood down. You can get it at...

    Odessa 260W fixtures...

I have the same fixture and I had one bank of tubes die on me last week. Could be a ballast but I've also had trouble with the fans as well. This is the last Oddessea product for me. Cheap isn't cheap if you have to boy twice. JMO

    Gold Nugget Pleco

FWIW, my GN plecos seemed really shy until half of my CF bulbs crapped the bed last week. With less wattage going on, they seem to be out and about all of the time. Mine are about 4 inches now. Because I have live plants I will have to fix my light fixture, but for now its been fun to see the...

    ramshorn snails

My two clown loaches team up together and have killed every snail (even large ones) I put into their tank. It is now my snail desposal unit when I get hitch hiking snails on new plants LOL.

Got a Gold Nugget? How big is it?

I have a GN pleco but its a L18, so it may not be like yours. The max size on mine is 5-6 inches. I checked www.planetcatfish.com (an excellent resource) and they didn't have any size info on L177. You may be able to get more info or input from the planetcatfish forum. Hope this helps you out...

    Plants from Singapore

:?: I'd like to know what experiences AA members have had with ordering plants from abroad, specifically the far east (Singapore etc). Please advise of shipping choices that work the best. Feedback on most sites (like Aqaubid, Ebay) can run the full gamut. Thanks for your input. Caribou

I'd like to buy 5-10 rooted Dow Noi plants (pogetemon helferi). If anyone has some to spare, please send me a PM. Thanks!

    DIY Root Tabs?

I baked mine at about 225 for an hour. I air dried them for about 4 hours before putting them into the oven. THe humidity in our house in winter is about zero, so if your conditions vary, you might want to air dry them a bit longer. The 50-50 formula is similar to Flourish tabs that don't have...

    DIY Root Tabs?

DIY Fert Tabs I thinkl the recipe is already in this post, but I use 50-50 mix of Greg Watson's CSM+B and red potting clay. A half of cup of each will make you a ton of tabs. I like to make mine in various sizes (big ones for big plants and little ones for liitle plants). These pellets will not...

Too many snails!! How do I get rid of them?

Lets not bicker like a bunch of children. My experience has been this: I keep one clown loach in a 29 gal tank and currently keep two (yes, just two) in one of my 90 gal tanks. All are thriving and are just fine. While they may a a schooling fish in the wild, they can ADAPT to many situations...

    Snails came on new plants...

 I also recieved a couple of free snails in my last plant shipement. They look like their shells a pointed on one end, so I'm hoping that they are MTS. Unfortunately, I also recieved some "Free" duckweed that is proving to be a royal pain. Today is a third day in a row now that it has not...

Bringing out the reds.. yes another post

Lace Rock  I have a huge piece of lace rock in my 90 gal tank and it hasn't effected any of my water parameters that I can detect. I test my water a couple of times a week and have had this piece of rock for over a year. It hasn't changed my phosphates at all, they're always at 1.2-1.5.
