you can also take a handful of substrate from your established tank to help speed up the cycle. the substrate will very seeded with bacteria. using the tank water won't help that much--but the filter media and substrate will definitely shorten the cycling time.

do you have plants? if so, you don't want to use salt. many species of plants cannot tolerate it.

i swear by the python! but then again, i have a 125g, so buckets are basically out. i throw the dechlor in while the tank is filling up. it's pretty instantaneous when it hits the water, so the fish aren't really exposed to much chlorine or chloramine.
