    cherry barb fry! help!

Hi. This week has seen the emergence of fry. Planted tank. Suspect origin inside log. Difficulties keeping track of how many. Problem 1: suspected carnage. 1 queen arabesque, 1 Mega clown. Trying to keep them well fed but.... Problem 2: due for water change. Some of these guys are...

    adf with open wound!

So Monday is water change day. I awoke this am to 1 of 5 adfs in a planted 10G dead. I have to say that as upset as I am, I am not that surprised as there was one the other night who simply would not eat. I did not inspect the body too closely as I was upset and my husband was good enough to...

    need nitrate advice.

So I am as my namesake suggests. 29G planted mixed tank. stocked to 90%, 2 filters + sponge for colonization for quarantine. Filtration and oxygenation should be more than adequate. 10G 5adf + 2 otos. planted. Tetra whisper pf10. The bigger tank nitrates are getting out of control...

appealing to anyone who knows about adfs...

OK. I'm sorry it wasn't clear. Thank you all for responding. The nitrates died as the Ph dropped below 6.4. All livestock survived. I try not to add too much crap to my water, but as I believe was outlined in other post, I am forced to use RO water. I bought the alkaline buffer so that...

appealing to anyone who knows about adfs...

Hi. I had a ph disaster. So far everyone save the nitrates are alive. I have a sponge filter in another tank that might help rebuild the nitrates, but it's a sponge filter. Everything that I have read suggests that it is waaaayy too much disruption for them. I am desperate to not have...

ph falling thru the floor... crushed coral?

Thanks, I'll check replenish. I actually did a change Monday night, ph was at 7, tds was 120, nitrates were 10. When I posted last night I should have mentioned that. It was 24 hours until the results from first post. I use ro water as my tap ph is off the charts, (over 10) and it tests...

ph falling thru the floor... crushed coral?

Hi all. So my 10G adf tank read ZERO  nitrates today!!! Last week at 20! ph fell thru the floor last night and I guess they all died. I use RO water with Kent RO rite. In the larger tank it's not such an issue. Kh a problem. You would think the kent product would accommodate that rather...

Thought it was cycled ... Help

Hi. If you added all those other fish at once, you likely didn't give your tank time to adjust hence the new cycling. In order to prevent this it is important not to add too many at any one time. Be prepared for daily water changes again... Also watch your feeding. decaying uneaten food...

    floating adf...

This morning I noticed that one of my frogs seemed to be "relaxing" at the surface. Everyone else is zipping up and down the tank. Last night they ate alot. I have tried shining an led on his tummy, but quite frankly, I don't know what fluid from dropsy or constipation looks like. I...

    10G ADF tank ... corys?

Sigh. That's what I was afraid of. I know of people who do keep corys in a 10, but I was wondering. Guess I'll have to continue with daily or every second day changes on top of the weekly. I am just worried that the little buggers might find it too stressful. Anyway, thanks very much...

Thought it was cycled ... Help

I'm a newb too, but I think you should have left your filter pads alone. I didn't change mine. The nitrates are very few in the water column. They are mostly on filter pads, substrate and decorations. Sounds like you lost most of them. I believe you're going to have to re-cycle unless you...

    10G ADF tank ... corys?

Hi all. My 10G African Dwarf Frog tank currently houses 5 ADFs and 2 otos. I am planning on upgrading my filter so that hopefully I can add a few more inhabitants. The highly entertaining but notoriously bad scavengers make for messy feedings. It seems like I'm doing small daily or every...

Thank you very much Rivercats. After even just a short time with running the lights for 5-6 hours a day, and more regular fert dosings, things are already looking much better. I did a bit more research into peroxide, it breaks down quite quickly and seems to add a bit more O2 into the water...

    snail eggs?

Hi again. I was doing a water change today and happened to notice quite a few of these things on some driftwood. Tried to remove a few with my nail, but they're reasonably stubborn. I have 3 nerites, but it's a freshwater tank. I use Kent RO rite, but no extra salt. I have had some...

    algae. newb.

Thank you very much. Light timers reduced. Worried about using peroxide. I'm assuming when you say Excel, that you mean Seachem carbon? I haven't been dosing with any real regular frequency, just when they looked peaked and a little with water changes. I will start keeping a regular...

Oh boy. Well I'm running the lights too long. 6 hours really? The fish don't mind? There are two tanks. Both get weekly (sometimes bi-weekly water changes.) The 29G gets a 30+ everytime. The 10G is new and I am doing much smaller water changes as I read that the ADFs don't like big ones. I...

My new leopard danio is bugging out!

honestly, i do think you're overstocking. In my limited experience, danios are highly entertaining. They do need some room however. You mentioned a 20G, I personally would set them up in there. Also you mentioned a bn plec. Even fully grown, he'll be small, but need room. I would not...

    algae. newb.

So I had a massive diatomic bloom in my first tank. Once I got some Otos and some tiger nerites, the problem seemed to clear. Now, they're not eating the algae. I added a L340 last night, but he's still acclimating and not a big algae eater anyway. I've moved 2 Otos to a 10G rife with...
