Betta Fish: Is it Fin Rot?

Symptoms: I have a male veil tail who doesn't move unless the water is disturbed, and his left fin looks very thin or possibly erroded (except for the "shaft" bits) When he moves he has to move the left fin a lot faster than the right. His tail is raggedy too. I haven't seen any fuzz or black...

    Powerhead Flow Rate?

I am putting my Golden (Chinese) Algae Eater and my Zebra Danios in a 30 gal (36x12x16?) and since both CAEs and Danios like some water movement, I am going to add a power head and undergravel filtration. I am entirely unsure what gph the powerhead should have. Does anyone know?

How would one go about adding a cross brace to an already made 4x2x2 foot tank? or a longitudinal one for that matter? Wood being the preferred material.

    Manzanite+Flowy Tails= Bad?

I was going to get some driftwood for a new tank, and I really like how the manzanite driftwood looks especially from this site Manzanita-Driftwood.com, but then I realized It has really spiky twigs. Is that liable to damage a comet goldfish's tail? I know you aren't supposed to have spiky stuff...

    Giant Danio care

I have a poor lonely solitary giant danio with little room to swim and no companions, so I would like to get some more and move them into a 120 gallon with 2 common goldfish and a common pleco. However, i hear they need 72+ degree water. Does anyone know if they will be ok at around 70? Zebra...

I'm attempting to design a a plywood aquarium 30"x30"x50" for some goldfish some giant danios and a common pleco, and I'm not sure how thick the plywood should be. I was thinking 1.5 inches on the bottom, as per youtube's uarujoey's huge ray aquarium with a plywood bottom, but I don't know how...

    Comet tank dimensions?

So after a long and tedious search, I think I have found a tank for my comet goldfish and pleco. It is 120 gallons, 48" long, 24" wide. Is the length going to be fine? I made sure to get a wide one so they could turn around.

    75 gallon goldfish & pleco?

Will a 75 gallon tank satisfy area/space requirements for two comet goldfish and a common pleco? If it depends on the shape, suggestions are welcome. From what I've heard, water quality problems can be cleared up with good filtration and water changing habits.

    bioload on a 75 with a pleco?

If a common pleco was kept in a 75 gallon tank, would one be able to keep other fish in there as well? gouramis and giant danios for example, I assume angels and similar fish would be in danger of getting sucked upon by the pleco? I'm not sure where the bio load requirements end and the space...

    Anyone have any ideas?

I just got these guy and could use some help getting specifics on what they are. The one is obviously a pleco, but I don't know what kind. One is a gourami, I don't know which variety. The last fish is a giant danio, I think. I also don't know what kind of frog is with them. Assuming they are...

    Help identifying fish?!

A friend couldn't take care of these fish anymore and gave them to me, they are soon to be moved to a bigger, hopefully cleaner, tank. There is a common pleco (variety unknown), a gourami (variety unknown), a yellow frog (variety unknown), and some sort of silvery fish that I think is probably a...

Filtering for 30 gal Goldfish tank

My Aqueon QuietFlow 30 (for 30-45 gal) filter isn't keeping up with my two comet goldfish (in a 30 gallon tank). I am looking at getting an Aqua Clear filter. Should I get the 200 gph one for aquariums up to 50 gallons, or the 300 gph one for tanks up to 70 gallons? I'm not sure if flow of the...

    Estes Marine Sand for Pleco?

I am shortly going to be acquiring a 50 gallon tank and a pleco (along with other fish) from a friend, and I have been debating getting some Estes Marine Sand for it (its fine for freshwater), since I've read that plecos like burrowing in it. I heard a couple places that it has some sort of...

Very enthusiastic, but budget constrained beginner

Hi all, I'm a college student who got gifted two tiny goldfish rescued from being table decorations for a wedding. Which seems rather innocent, but then I learned they needed 30 gallons each, and then I saw a really cheap 20 gallon danio/GAE set up on craigslist, and the obsession began. I...
