Thanks for the info...sorry it took so long to reply. Unfortunately, the seller of the book wants $249 dollars for it, so I think I'll pass on it... Liggs

    Rasbora Eggs?

If you don't have another tank, adding extra plants for hiding places for the fry is a good idea. Unfotunately, there are all sorts of obstacles for the fry to overcome to survive. Just a few are: other fish, finding enough food, and power filters. You may be able to keep them from being...

    Sexing Rainbow sharks

Anyone know how? A student of mine wishes to try and breed hers. I don't have any idea of the difficulty, but I told her I'd see what I could find after we tried googling the subject unsuccesfully during a study hall. Any info would be appreciated. Liggs

    Finally! My kribs have spawned!

Of course, I did not know they had done it. Sneaky, crafty fish. I have just seen about six one-half inch long fry poking around outside their flowerpot "cave" under the watchful eye of mama. Damn, they are neet to look at. Liggs

    Hydrogen Peroxide & Egg Fungus

I have not heard of using hydrogen peroxide to prevent fungus on the eggs. I have stuck to using methylelene blue from the lfs and followed the instructions on the package. A little bit goes a long way.

Encyclopedia of Live Foods. Charles O. Masters. TFH, 1985 Anyone have a copy they're willing to sell, or know of a person or website who does? I've already seen lfs.com has a photocopied set, but I don't want that. Any info will be appreciated. Liggs[/u]

Finally hatched out c. paleatus eggs!

I'm not sure of the proper name for my substrate, but it consists of about three inches of plant-friendly fluorite (I think that's the name) which is covered by smooth pebbles or gravel. I have had success with just the spawning of eggs in sand substrate tanks as well. I think the only...

    Un Needed Fish tanks?

Rudy, I don't think it would be wise from a monetary standpoint to buy a fish tank from Texas if you live in Tulsa. Even if the tank were priced very low, the cost of gas to go up the Indian Nations Turnpike for delivery would offset any money you may have saved. Plus, it's a heck of a lot...

    dwarf gourami and blood

Oops! I sent the information as a private message. In a nutshell, I didn't find anything. Fish can have tuberculosis and it can be transferred to humans, but it's symptoms do not include a swollen belly. Probably is a parasite of some kind causing the swelling, and the blood could have just...

Finally hatched out c. paleatus eggs!

My fish have spawned three times in about a month and I messed up the first two, but seemed to have hit it right on the third. The first time, the corydoras paleatus eggs were collected and placed in a tupperware bowl that was filled with water and floated on the surface of the tank. I used...

i've got a serious problem, baby corydoras

The more corys you have, the greater chance of having a breeding pair. My lfs guys always say I need six of any fish to ensure a male and female. I don't know if this is statistically accurate or just a sales pitch, but I am leaning towards the former since the lfs guys are pretty legit...

need help with algae in the water

Also, sometimes water changes place more nutrients into the water for algae. I would do as QTOFFER advises and either keep the lights off for some time, or even better, get some higher-order plants to compete with the algae for nutrients such as the java fern, java moss, or my favorite for...

    I know,I'm a fishy idjit,but....

Regarding bettas, they can be peaceful community tank members if you remember that they fight other males of their species, and why they do so. They attack males of their species due to visual recognition, and they attack to eliminate any potential competition for females. It makes perfect...

    Jumping Betta

John Paul has some good suggestions. I never do a 100% water change. 100% water changes can be very stressful to the fish, as all of a sudden they have to acclimate to a brand-new environment (even if you drip-acclimate the fish, it's still not very fun for them). Regarding the net, I would...

    breeding tank filter

I concur with Gene. In breeding and rearing tanks the only way to go is sponge filtration. This provides enough biological filtration for rearing fry, and mechanical filtration shouldn't be necessary because you should be siphoning excess food from the bottom of the tank daily when rearing...

You got that right, Rudy. Not a whole lot of action going on here on this forum. I just recently joined, so I figure this forum might have its ups and downs. Regarding your earlier posting, unless someone has some VERY rare fish that you want to purchase, I don't think it would be worth it...
