Is it possible to keep a sleeper goby like the diamond goby with a shrimp goby (yellow watchman) in the same tank? (75 gallons)

    anemone/pulsing xenia

I recently upgraded my lights, and one of my bubble-tip anemones is wandering, looking for his favorite lighting I suppose. He is currently approaching my favorite pulsing xenia. Will he damage or kill it if they come in contact? Should I try to divert him elsewhere? Or is this even possible?

    sick chromis

I have one blue reef chromis which has developed a white fungus-looking patch on one side near his face. His tail fin is also a little shredded. He is currently in a 20 gallon hospital tank which is being treated for ich at sg 1.009. Also in the tank are 3 other healthy chromis, a 3 inch hippo...

    Oh, no, Ich again!

I just took my new hippo tang out of quarantine 3 weeks ago, where he did very well for 4 weeks after I purchased him. I had left the main tank fishless for 7 weeks after a bout of ich a couple of months ago. This morning, I see the dreaded white specks, and the tang is rubbing all over the sand...

    Tang following clowns into anemone

I just put my new hippo tang into my main tank last night after 3 weeks in QT. He immediately started swimming with my pair of clowns, which was quite entertaining! After the lights went out they separated, but today he's right back with them, and he's coming very close to my LTA as the clowns...

    Overly shy tang

I have a small hippo tang who's been in my QT for a week now. The only time he ventures out from behind the one rock in there is to eat, and he is eating very well (frozen mysis, flake, and nori). But he grabs a few bites really quickly and then zooms back behind the rock :(. I thought that by...

    Cycle taking forever

Hi everyone, I'm doing a fishless cycle which I started way back on the first of December with pure ammonia, after reading the AA article on the subject. The ammonia started out at about 4.0 ppm. The nitrite went from 0 up to a high of over 5.0, which is the highest number my color chart shows...

    7 weeks fishless?

I've been away from here, having a rather depressing year with my tank. Now: I'm almost starting over, except for my favorite inverts, who have been great survivors! :D Is the consensus that 7 weeks is a good amount of time to leave the tank fishless after having ich or marine velvet, or both? I...

    CopperSafe treatment

Hi smart people, I currently have three fishes which had marine velvet (according to your advice and looking at pictures) in a ten gallon QT with CopperSafe by Mardel (chelated copper sulfate it says). In the sticky here about treating diseases, I read that I have to keep testing the levels...

    Sad clownfish

Sad clown fish, but let me give you the story: Hi eveyone, it's been a LONG time since I posted anything. My tank is ending up to be a FOWLR, though I tried corals for a while and didn't catch the bug. But wait, I have lots of inverts, does that change my category????? Anyway, Ten days ago I...

    Clownfish in mushroom...cute!

Just the moon- lights were on in my aquarium this morning at dawn when I glanced in to see one of my clownfish cuddled into a half-closed up large hairy mushroom. It was so cute...he was just kind of jiggling back and forth in there. His buddy was hovering nearby under the toadstool they...

    feather duster placement

Hi all, Today I decided to do a little re-arranging of a few rocks (those which can still be moved anyway). There was one smallish rock down in front center which I thought would look better up higher, hiding a power head. I found that a large feather duster in the sand next to the rock had...

    sick feather duster?

I came home from work at lunchtime to find a feather duster hanging about all the way out of his tube (his end was still in, at least). I brushed the tongs by him, but he didn't react at all. Feathers were still fully extended, looking healthy except for being so far out. I just came home...

    Wow! Pods!

I had seen some pods in my hang-on refugium, but I thought only a few, and didn't think about it too much. Last night I looked late under the moonlights for the first time in a while, and WOW! The main tank was swarming with pods---it looked like a snowstorm in there! I don't see any at all...

    bulb replacement....timeline

Hi all, I've had my coralife light fixture (4 x 65 watt) for almost a year now, and I need to change the bulbs. Question: do the actinics need replacing as well as the 10,000K ? I hope to order them this weekend, as they're on sale at drs.fostersmith.com ; TIA Diane

    Blue (not blue-green) Reef Chromis

These: http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=113 look really bright blue and pretty. Are they very different fron the blue-green reef chromis? They apparently get bigger (up to 5 inches?) Has anyone kept these? I only recall people discussing the blue-greens, which I...

    new shrimps look dead

Hi everyone, I just recieved a large order from saltwaterfish.com, three hours ago, which I am acclimating. No drip, so I'm adding 1 tablespoon of water to every bag (floating in my tank) every ten minutes. It's how I always do it , for three hours, and it's always worked beautifully...

    aphids

I just did a search on this site for aphids, which I have on my pond lilies all of a sudden. Not much came up in the search except this thread from last year: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=56325&highlight=aphids Is the best way to deal with them by spraying them into the...

    fertilizer for lilies ?

Is it OK to use those little Jobe's fertilizer sticks (the ones for houseplants) for potted lilies in a pond? Or is there anything in them that would harm the fish?

    need some new ideas

Hi everyone, I've been posting mostly in the saltwater forum for the past year and a half while establishing my reef tank, but I've ignored my freshies and I need some new thoughts. I have a 50 gallon tropical set-up which currently has only two high-fin white tetras, two black skirt tetras...

    goby questions

I have a pink spotted goby (about 4 inches) in a 75. Would it be OK to add a yellow watchman goby too? They're quite different in size and color. Also would either one likely pair up with a tiger pistol shrimp or a Caribbean pistol shrimp? (Neither of which I have yet.)

    nori question

Do people leave nori hanging in the tank all the time? I've been putting a piece soaked in garlic (whole tank goes wild!) or in selcon (they don't really care!) every day, but in a couple of hours it's gone. Should I put more in when they finish it?

    advice on decorator crab

Would you add a decorator crab to a 75 gal. reef set-up with a small rock of green polyp coral, some kind of white leather, a good-sized clump of pulsing xenia, and a large colony of a purple xenia with green zoos mixed in? Would he destroy everything ?

    Blunt-tip claw crab

I have a good-sized crab, light reddish tan body a little over the size of a penny and a claw-spread of possibly 3 inches. His claws have flat tips with white surfaces. He goes after the nori like crazy. Do you think he's fish-safe? I've never seen him chase after a fish, but I suppose that...
