    Chipped aquarium???

The best market would be a reptile owner who does not need to have a watertight aquarium. I would not want the risk of 100 gallons leaking over the lounge carpet.

    Clicker Training & Tricks

Clicker training was designed for dolphin training. I know that it is used for a number of different species including children, dogs, horses and rats. Has anyone tried training their fish to do anything?

Is this true or False ?

There is a risk that the fish are more intelligent than you. My fish have conditioned me to feeding them by frantically swimming up and down the long side of the tank when they see me. They have trained me well as I give in to their puppy dog eyes and feed them.

did i pick the wrong fish?

An unknown fact to new fish keepers is that you can give unwanted fish back to the fishshop (LFS). It is better to give them back than watch the red sharks eat their friends over time - plus they are more likely to eat each other at night when the lights are off.

    Prego Zebra Danio ?

You probably don't want them to breed as it will just create in-breeding and weaken the fish. Are you sure that you are not getting broody in other parts of your life?

Help! I can't get rid of my algae bloom

Just keep doing water changes - 25% every three days. Also reduce the amount you are feeding - most people overfeed Do some water tests -the algae might be sympotamtic of other problems All the best

    Water Colour

Glad the tank is better - just keep doing water changes. We bought a variety of test kits - ph, nitrate, ammonia and carefully monitored the water. This kept us enteraintained and helped explain any deaths. Don't worry of it feels like fish killing rather than keeping in the few three...

    Need help with name....

Three - the LFS was worried that the male would over harrass the females and thus suggested we had three. However the LFS did take the fish back when we realised they were attacking the poor male.

    Question

Not meaning to be contary - but our local LFSs (and we have to been to loads inthe last few weeks while we were deciding what tank to buy/ what fish to get/ twiddling our thumbs during the endless days of fishless cycling) work really hard to ensure their tanks are the best. Our local LFS are...

Adding Driftwood during cycle ~ is this a no no?

Talking of fish shops - we are really lucky in Hertfordshire, UK - we have some great shops. However if ever we drive somewhere/ visit friends we also pop into other LFS to admire their fish etc. However lots have quite high proportions of dying or dead fish. Eg a tank of 50 fish with one...

    Need help with name....

Rams - They sound viscous. What else do you have/ plan to have in your community tank? My female bettas attacked my male Betta - it was such a horrid site. I should have realised earlier that I could have taken the females back to the fish shop - but I didn;t until it was almost too late...

    new to the board

Angela - Ashesofyou - what does your username mean? Just interested - mine is fishweed becuase we really upset the guy inthe LFS by asking for fish weeds - he corrected us and said that they were plants. How to win friends and influence people!

    Day and Night for tank

Can you recommend any timers? The LFS shop suggested a DIY store - but the timers in the DIY store say 'not suitable for fluorescent lights'. I don't want to burn the hourse down or electrocute the fish. Also we just got home late - the house and the tank were in darkness. The algae eater...

You probably need to do some 'fishless cycling' - read the messages on the forum as there are some really useful tips. Also surfing this site will encourage you to keep fishless cycling for a little longer. You can always arrange and re-arrange your plants so that you have a stunning planted...

    new algae eater

agh - we made a mistake tonight and feel a bit guilty. we got back late and the house (and tank were in darkness) - we were so pleased that the algae eater was eating the weeds in the middle of the tank that we suddently turned the lights on. We scared the poor thing and so he quickly hid...

    my guppie needs help

Dig a hole in the garden Change the water 25% Really look for the body as it will rot and cause your ammonia to increase if it is left in the tank Don't guppies only live for between 24-36 months so it could be old age? What other fish do you have? any angels? Can you seperate the bullies...

    Getting new kinds of fish

We like the peace and tranquility of the tank - i don't like them chasing each other. Therefore we go for different coloured guppies - we have red, yellow, purple, green, blue and black. The range is amazing and 'cos they are small you can have plenty of them. And one betta and one long...

    new algae eater

We have bought a new long tailed algae eater - or ancistrid. He looks like the one on this picture: http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/1998-12.htm Will he make a good pet? or will he hide behind rocks the whole time? How large will he grow? The fish shop said he would not grow too big...

No amonia? Should I add more fish?

How are the nitrite levels? We are just setting up a new tank, and never did see noticable ammonia levels - I think the ammonia test tends to be not very sensitive and if you added live bacteria (we used Nutrafin cycle) you may not get enough to test because the ammonia eating bacteria grows...

    BETTAs

I would have thought that the bowl a size of grapefruit is a bit small - my ex-betta was the size of grapefruit segment. It would be like keeping a horse in a stable for 23 hours a day or a cat in a house or us living in a caravan. It is possible but there are nicer ways to live. Do you...
