    Algae Issue Problems

Plecostomuses is a word Just...get a plecostomus. I, too, once had algae. Then I got a plecostomus. I have never had to scrape algae since. My pleco spends his time diligently removing all the algae for me. Although, I got kind of attached to him when he was cute and three inches long and now...

    Cracks in acrylic tank

A friend gave me a 40 gal 36 by 15 by 16 in tank for free. It was great, although not brand new, it was in good shape. When I was moving it into my new apartment, part of a bed fell on it and made 2 small cracks on the bottom of the tank. I don't think it will ever hold water again, but my lfs...

New to the hobby: Cycling questions

Just wondering: What kind of test kit are you using? Are you sure you're using it properly.... I remember reading a topic earlier where someone with a chemical test kit did not add both nitrite testing reagents and kept on coming up with zero for nitrites. You might want to check over the...

New 55g Tank; Is this everything I need

Little Things: $10-Food $2-Thermometer $6-Gravel Vac $10-Dechlorinator $5-net $5-Timer $10-Surge Protector $48-Total I would say this is erring on the cheap side... but some of this you don't necessarily need. However, I would highly recommend food. My fish really seem to like it.

Thunderstorm heading in -- Tank okay?

We hardly ever get thunderstorms here. I think the earthquakes are more problematic for fishtanks anyway.

    Kiddy pool for pond?

When we moved, we brought our pond with us. We kept all the plants and fish in a hard kiddie pool shell for about 2 months while we were moving. Finally we built the pond, but it was too late for our lovely goldfish. Although we had diligently maintained the water quality, the kiddie pool was so...

Fresh vs. Salt, Build or Buy, Which Fish, deep moral debate.

It sound to me like manooosie could choose between either a really spectacular FW tank, or a very basic SW one. In my opinion, there are beautiful FW fish, and there are beautiful SW fish, but I would rather have the very best for my fish than only have their basic necessities met. I would...

got new tank: need help sorting it all out

You're quite correct. I don't know much :) However that link was helpful. And I'm trying to learn. I keep fish pretty well in my little 10 gallon but I've always wanted a planted tank and my plants don't usually do too well in the 10 gal. Partly because I think my pleco eats them. I have some...

    Betta in a Community Tank?

Bettas are pigs. I found that when I left my betta in my community tank he ate all the food and got fat. Other than that he got along very well with the other fish, even the bumblebee gobies. I gave him his own 2.5 gallon anyway.

got new tank: need help sorting it all out

Today my friend gave me her 50 gal aquarium tank and a bag of aquarium junk for free. Trouble is, half the stuff I can't figure out how to use. Most of it makes sense to me, but I am not sure how to set up the undergravel filter or what to do with all these valves and tubing. She gave me: ~50...
