Is there a way to make it octopus safe? I know the entire lid seals shut but what about the pump?

It is possible that if you have one of the newer BioCubes you don't need the fish guard..the back panel is already high enough and meets the bottom of the lid.

My back panel rises a 1/2" above the lower inner lip of the tank and easily blocks the filter chambers from curious critters. :)

It is possible the InTank version may be a little higher but you might want to measure. It certainly wouldn't hurt to add it as it would go behind the panel so maybe some added protection there but it may not be any higher than the normal back panel.

mine shuts all the way. What about corals? could I have those in there? And it's 14g, what kind should I get?

Stock, I'll upgrade to LED's when I know how/find one I trust/can afford it, so I only have leathers, and a montipora, also a frogspon. all doing good so far
