2 sumps on 180 gallon

so I was going to try 2 sumps one 40 gallon
rubbermaid that house my skimmer, heaters reactors, then drill bulkhead and have it drain
into 30 gallon that would have a refuge and return pump if this would work ?
With an auto top off and when the power goes out
if there will be enough room for extra water from the return pump thanks

It would probably start a leak somewhere in the system. More than likely it will be.the.two are.conected together when the rubermade tub pushs out

how could there be a leak? the 40 gallon would be higher so it could just drain instead of being connected .
