I just picked up this light plus 4 extra bulbs and a timer for $150. Was this a good deal? Will this work with my 55 gallon freshwater Cichlid tank? There's no live plants, I just want the light to brighten up my tank and have the simulation of daytime, dusk, and nightime effects of the moon. It's basically for me. I want to know can this light do harm to the African Cichlids ? Will it promote Algae? Thanks...... 65cichlids

That's an algae farm waiting to happen. Hope you have a backup plan in place. Looks great though :D

At least you have the capacity to run them for far less hours per day than someone with live plants, so you do have that going for you.

No Algae yet. Been running it for almost two weeks now. How long does it usually take to form algae?

I have the lights on a dual timer so the different parts stay on all day. 10k from 10 to 6. Actinic 6 to 12. Moonlights 12 to 8am. The actinic runs from 8am to 10am by themselves
