I like cichlid stones but I do like them better mixed with some more natural rock. I think the tank would look even better and the fish would like it even better if you mixed in some slate. Use the cichlid stones to prop up the slate and you will create even more places for them to hide.

What filtration do you have?

Most people recommend filtration rated for at least twice the actual volume of the tank, with cichlids you may want even more. I don't think that will be enough filtration long term, it definitely isn't enough flow.

There are a number of options. If the filter was bought recently enough you could return it and get a Fluval FX5. You could keep the media from the 405 to start the FX5 and at worst have a mini-cycle. You could add more filtration. Keep an eye out on craigslist for a good deal on a used filter (another 405, an FX5, AquaClear 110, etc.) or look for a deal on additional filtration on sale at the LFS or on eBay. Mbunas love flow. They would appreciate something like a 400gph powerhead just blasting flow from one of the back corners (better the left one since it doesn't have the 405's input). This would be in addition to more filtration.
