A couple of questions to get me started

Hi everyone,

A couple of questions before i go and buy me some sand and rocks...

1) can i make salt water with tap water? How about distilled 0ppm water?

2) do i need to acclimate sand and rocks?
I will assume hermits should be aclimated

3) rocks and sand need special light or just a 6500k bulb?

I can get some stuff for cheep now and im not ready so im thinking to start a small tank to maintain this "minimal" stuff...

Hey!
1. I would use the 0 ppm distilled water, it will save you a lot of headache when it comes to the many nuisance algae that can spring up from tap water.
2. Sand and rock-No
Hermits-Yes
3. Live rock doesn't need special light, but I would use a 10K bulb over a 6500K one. The 6500K will grow algae you don't want and it will give the tank a yellowish hue. The 10K will give it a nice crisp white color.

What size tank were you looking to do and are you going to try and do a reef down the line?

Yes. Im going to do a reef but i dont have the lights yet.. They are super expensive.

Its a 30 gal tank and a 20 gal sump
But im currently building this so its not done yet
