Air bubbles coming out of Aqua Clear Model 110

Just set up my new Aqua Clear model 110, and I have a lot of air bubbles coming out of it. I have used this filter on other aquariums, and never had this problem. Is there something I am doing wrong, or does it simply need to break in a little?

make sure the intake tube is all the way down on the impeller. also make sure the media is lined up and arranged properly. When it first starts up it will have bubbles for a few seconds then it should go away

There's something different about the 110 model vs. the 70 or others. There is a black fitting that goes between the impeller and auction tube. Everything seems correct, but this is what is coming from the return. See picture...

..... How low is the waterline?

Pretty high and the output is slightly under water too.
