I have a 20g high planted tank with fish in it. I've been doing a little research and some people say airestones are necessary some say they are worthless. What dou you guys think? Should I stop using an airpump?
Any comments are much appreciated!!

It depends on whether you fish and getting enough oxygen or not. IMO, an air stone is not necessary unless you do not have enough water movement for a good gas exchange. However air stones are always good to have just in case you dose something that will take out oxygen.
Do you get a lot of surface movement from a filter, powerhead, etc?

Also if you have a glass canopy, running air stones under them is not a good idea. Algae will thrive on the light above and the steady flow of air/water from the air bubbles coming to the surface.
