Anacharis, best way to trim?

I added 2 bunches of Anacharis to a 7 gal bow with a few zebras and a betta... they are growing like crazy and doing great... but, do you trim from the bottom when you 1st purchase them? The bottoms look dark, and a few have sprouted roots.

I haven't stuck them in the natural gravel yet, but plan to tonight after I know about trimming etc...

The tank has a 11w PC on it BTW.

I would trim off the old part at the bottom and replant the tops at least the first time so all the growth looks the same. Next time if you want new sprouts to plant, leave the stumps planted and new growth will emerge. Anacharis hits the top of my aquarium in about 1 week.
