Am I able to cut the intake tube on the aqua clear so it doesn't extend so deep into my tank. I'm worried that it will suck up sand and brake like my last hob

You can. How far does it sit from the sand? What kind of sand you have. I have two tanks one with pool filter sand and one with pet store sand. Haven't had any problems.

I have pfs and I am not sure how far down it gos yet I'm still stuck at work. Its a 29gal tank if that helps

Usually they all come with two tubes. So you can use one only it should get you about half way down. If you feel you need it closer to the bottom cut the other one down.
