Please congratulate 5x5, the winner of the August 2012 freshwater picture of the month contest. The winning entry is below:
Scientific Name: Astronotus Ocellatus
Common Name: Oscar
Size: Up to 13"
Tank Requirement: 75g and up.
Food: Any high quality pellet.
Behavior: They are fairly peaceful compared to other large New World cichlids, but can certainly have a mean streak and kill less aggressive or smaller tankmates. They will also try to eat anything that can fit into their mouth. Oscars are notorious for redecorating the tank and sulking when they are stressed.
Additional Information: They require excellent water quality and good filtration. Oscars are prone to HLLE disease when exposed to poor environments.
