"Carpet" simply means that the plants spread out to cover the substrate, just like a rug does over a floor.

A (beautiful) example would be something like this:

What kinds of plants do that? I would love for my tank to have a plant that carpets as yours does!

Haha I wish I could say that was my tank, that is just a picture I found on google ;)

I actually can't get my Micro Swords to carpet at all, and it is probably due to insufficient light and no added CO2 as mentioned earlier in the thread.

There are several carpeting plants though (although I don't know all the names :oops:), some faster growing than others, but they do require extra steps and equipment (such as setting up some sort of CO2 system) in order to get them to spread like that!
 
I think the common name for that plant is baby tears but I can't promise
 
the plants to the far right are baby tears, but the groundcover up front is glossostigmas I believe.
