After 3 years, there's a good bit of calcification on my aquarium hood and trim. What's the best way to remove it while the fish are still in there? Any safe chemicals out there that would be OK if some got into the water? I was thinking about just scraping it if there's no other option, but was worried about the calcified stuff getting into the water...

Moisten a rag with vinegar and wipe it down. The vinegar should loosen it up enough for you to clean it.

Oh OK. The hood is easier because I can separate it from the tank and use chemicals. I guess I'm just more concerned about the plastic trim on the tank itself that also has a lot of calcification. I want to remove it while the fish are still in the tank.

Mebbid is right I use vingger and water in a spray bottle to clean the glass, trim, light fixture and anything around my tank.
