Hey all,

I have a 40 gal with 3 bichirs, and yes I am very aware I will need a bigger tank, but as on late I have been having an algae problem. So far i have just scrubbed the algae off. Is there an algae eating tank mate I can have with my bichirs? My concerns are that it's been reported that some plecos will suck on the bichirs hard scales, but if I go for a smaller companion they will just be dinner. Or is there a different route? Maybe increase the amount of plants I have? Any suggestions would be great.

Do a water change to bring down excess nutrients. Having more plants will also use up nutrients. I had a large pleco in with my bichirs and they left him alone, but every Bichir has a different personality

I try to do about a 15-20%water change each week but apparently that's not enough! Haha and you had no issues with a pleco? That's inspiring cuz I'm getting sick of scrubbing with a toothbrush...
