Freshwater post what?? Haha

Ok so my issue right now is that I have an old piece of driftwood I would like to use for my 10 gal freshwater tank. Before I took down the tank this piece was in more then a year ago the driftwood had a pretty good amount of black beard algae on it. Today when checking out the driftwood I can see it's still got black beard algae on it. How should I scrub this all off without ruining the wood?

EDIT: did this stuff really survive that long out of water? Or is it dead but just hanging on? This piece of driftwood wasn't stored properly or cleaned (obviously). I never planned on doing freshwater ever again. I literally had this piece in a cold garage to a basement. I'm probably just going to soak it in boiling water then scrub it with a brush.

Thanks!

Yep, I would boil and scrub. It's probably dead but the residue is unsightly.

I'd bleach and burn it - then I'd say it's BBA safe..

I have used bleach and repeat soakings with success though if that helps.
