See the pic. This is new growth on the top of thr rocks directly under the lights.

Water params are excellent, though my pH is still only 8.0. Zero phosphates, ammonia and nitrItes, 5-10ppm nitrAtes, 1.024sg.

I have the lights (low power LEDs) on for 12hrs a day, but just today dialed them back to 8.

Is this typical on a new tank or should I be concerned?

Very typical of a new tank. They're called diatoms and they are harmless. You may see them for a few months then they will eventually disappear. They will appear on the sides of the tank and you can just wipe them down if it becomes unsightly.

OK, I didn't know if those were a freshwater only thing. (I had the same issue in my freshwater tanks, and yes, they did go away).

Thanks for the info.

Catfish lover got the reason...
I had a severe infestation of brown algae until 3 weeks ago, when I 've travelled for 15 days...When I came back, they have disappeared.
May be, a reduced feed procedure ,provided by the auto feeder have help.To much food improve algae.
