Brown stuff that appears on glass and sand

I have a sw tank and i jsut added 10 more pounds of live rock and like 2 days later my whole tank was brown and the sand was brown to is brown stuff algae and if it is why does it happen

Was the rock fully cured? You may have also restarted the cycling process, the brown algae is usually due to poor water quality or the tank just being newly cycled, thats what mine did at the end of its cycling process.

Yeah chances are if you added 10lbs of LR to a 20 gal tank, you had some leftovers that created nutrients for an Algae bloom........ check your nitrates... probably need a water change quick.........

It could be a diatom outbreak. This is common in new tanks and will eventually burn itself down.

When I added 10 lbs of LR to my tank, I had a sudden Algae bloom as well and I bought some #9 Fritzyme and it went away within 2-3 days. My water tests came out perfect.
