I have not had any experience with fish keeping. Have a dream of starting this hobby now that I am retired. Have done a lot of reading on how to get started, the nitrogen cycle and so on. But before all that I have to get a tank- I am shocked at the prices of new tanks with stands and figured, if I get a used one, can spend the rest of my resources on the equipment and the fish of course.

My vision is to eventually have a 40-55 gallon freshwater tank with live plants. I see ads on marketplace for used tanks.
The photo attached is one example. What are the questions I should be asking to make sure I don’t start of on the wrong foot? Or am I better off getting a brand new tank.
Appreciate any advice

You going fresh or saltwater? When buying used tank, check corner seals which are silicone if they look smooth without missing pieces. Holds water.
