I have a 15 gal tank that I need a heater for, I was going to get a 125 watt but wanted to make sure it's not a bad idea. The ambient temp in my house varies wildly during the year, and it's really chilly at the moment. my tank temp reading is currently 60, but in the summer I can see it getting up to 75 without a heater.

This is the one I have my eyes set on.

It will just not work as hard. Also the more watts means longer heater. So it may not fit

My tank dimensions are 2 ft L X 1 ft W X ~1 ft H

I'm not sure if that helps but besides it possibly not fitting and considering the winter temp needed to be raised so much vs summer temp does it sound like I'd be okay?

Edit: Just looked at that product, the height is 12.6 inches long, are heaters okay to be laid sideways?

Yes it can be laid horizontal without issues. I have a few and one of the folks that like them. It is important that you may need to calibrate it. Here's a link to a guy that says "Um" a lot. http://youtu.be/VaksiN76Frc
