Changing over to sand?

I have a 75g tank with two severums. I would like to change it over to sand. I keep seeing people on here mentioning egg crate under sand? What is this egg crate and why do I need it?

You dont need egg crate lighting (available from home improvement stores) under sand for your tank. People use it to either tie down driftwood or be able to stack rocks and have the egg crate distribute the weight of the rocks over the whole area of the bottom of the tank rather than at a single point.

Ok great I'll just do the sand thanks
