Hi All,
I have been keeping a Clown Fish now for a bout a year now and i dont know what sort of Clown fish it is? Im thinking of buying another to pair it up. I'd like to find out if it is an Ocelaris Clown or a Perculia Clown.... How do i know the difference?

The amount of black is not a true indicator. If they are young, they can develop more defined black edging as they age. I've been told that the dorsal fin can be used to assist identification. If it goes up on the first dorsal spine and the arcs downwards it's a perc and if it goes up then continues up before going downwards it's a false perc.

Again, the only true way to know is to count the dorsal spines.

The best way to figure out which it is an O. Clown or a True Perc is to count the dorsal spines. A True Percula will have 10 dorsal spines and an Ocellaris Clown will have 11 dorsal spines.
