The basic concept for this tank is a FOWLR, shallow sand bed with a few reef inhabitants featuring total aerobic nitrate removal from a do it yourself adaptation of a large carbon bed with Bill Hiatt's right now bacteria, which you can continue to use, or not, either way the tank will continue to run and will not have to recycle if you take a large portion of the water. Oh the irony. I just wanted to share that with you guys and gals. I'm researching all kinds of gizmos for my new 210 overflow in which this 75 will become the sump and I came accross this thread.

What a love hate relationship. Should have given the thing away when I had a chance, lol.
 
I'm a little south of your neck of the woods. I'm in Murrieta. I've been meaning to put up pics, I'll try to get back around too it. I'm starting to feel like I'm the only fish freak around me. NO one understands...
