So I have been trying to get coralline algae to grow in my tank and I have a few rocks with some on it that I scrape off about one a week and shut down to the pump, my tank parameters are great and my temp is 77. I use kent marine tech cb and was using purple tech. Why is my coralline algae not taking off and growing like it should?

Who knows. I have a biocube 29 that has been set up for years and I have next to none.

Check your calcium and your magnesium those are the things that seem to make a difference in my tanks.

I think one of my problems was a long spine urchin that really liked to eat coralline. My calcium is maintained at 450 and mg is around 1200 to 1300. I have more in my sump then anywhere else.

Idk what mines was but I got alot of beautiful green Coraline algae which I like better.

Your mag levels need to be at or around 1380, calc around 420 and alk between 8-10. Also raise the temp to about 78. And you might start seeing results. What are your water parameters and what lights are you running?

I use purple tech. I have a feeling it somewhat depends on the type of rock. 2 of my 7 rocks have great coloring now while the other 5 (different kind of rocks) have very little.

My rocks grow pink and purple coralline but my back wall and pumps grow green coralline. There's debate as to what causes the different colors but I think it's all just based on luck. Take my buddy for instance has the same tank as mine with same light same types of rock and sand but he grows pink, purple and orange coralline.
