My aerated tapwater tested KH- 5.

After it's been in my tank for over a week it's 7. Could this be because of Eco-Complete? :?

I do have a large rock in there, but I tested it with muriatic acid. It didn't bubble. Perhaps different parts of the rock would test differently.

Just trying to understand what is going on in there.

I've read elsewhere that Ecocomplete will mess with your water parms for the first month or two.

how long has the tank been setup ? how fast does water evaporate out of the tank? how much and how often do you change PWCs?

carbonate ions (what KH measures) won't evaporate out so as water evaporates it will go up?

The rock shouldn't test differently in different areas. If the color is uniform then its composition is uniform. also, almost always, lime (calcium carbonate, and the usual cause of KH) is a sedimentary rock and therefore wont form with other minerals like you would see in granite or marble (hence the multi colored appearance).
