I brought a clump of this plant, with the roots wrapped in a ball of cotton, about three months ago. It was about the size of half a standard computer mouse. Now, it has literally engulfed half of my little 5gal long. i haven't used any fertilizer at all unless you count betta and shrimp poo. It provides an excellent hiding place for my shrimp, and my betta likes to weave through it. i'd just like to know the name of this plant.

Might be sleeps l some type of rotala species, but I'm not sure. Also look up elodea and see if that's it

I doubt it's elodea. I have no idea, maybe baby tears? Normal ones. It really does look like my normal baby tears.

First picture bottom left side, the stem out of focus made me think elodea

But aren't the stems of elodea thicker? I have two cuttings from a fish store and the leaf density and stem thickness is higher.

It doesn't appear to be baby tears either because the leaves are sharper and thinner.

Am I doomed to raise fry in a nameless plant?
