Hello my fellow fish lovers! I have started cycling my 55gal aquarium. I'm using ace janitorial grade ammonia, and all day today I have put in three or four drops (I put a little in the cap and drip some into the tank), wait a bit, test the ammonia, and add more if needed. I've been at it most of the day and have only reached 2ppm. So my question is, how much of this stuff should I use in order to reach between 3-5 ppm? If I were to use a measuring cup or something, how much should I fill it up?

Also, what is the ideal temp for bacteria growth? I keep getting mixed reviews on the cycling stuff I read. I'd like to know from other people's experiences. Thanks all :)

I used laboratory Grade Ammonia (unsure of %) in my 200litre (45USgallons I think) and I used around 4-5ml of ammonia to reach 4ppm.

There are also ammonia calculators.

According to this calculator

http://www.fishforums.net/aquarium-calculator.htm

If your ammonia is 10% and your tank is 55us gallons then you need 8.33ml of ammonia to reach 4ppm.

I kept my temp at 28C/82F

Don't forget to add an air stone if you have one.
