I'm getting ready to fishless cycle my 200l/55 gallon aquarium using seeded filter media, but I need an ammonia source. I last kept fish 3+ years ago, and I still have the food from then. Would I be able to use this fish food as an ammonia source, or should I buy some cheap, new fish food or just buy pure ammonia. I'd rather use fish food because it's cheaper, but if I really need to I can buy some ammonia online.

Also, I'm thinking of using Tetra Aquasafe to hopefully speed up the cycle a bit and boost the bacteria levels. Has anyone used this before, and if so what are your thoughts? Or does anyone recommend any other similar products? Or do you think it's unnecessary and the seeded filter media will suffice?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

I don't see why you couldn't use the out of date fish food , ammonia source is a ammonia source , may as well put it to use for something
