I am cycling a sw tank with raw shrimp and wonder if you use carbon or not.not using skimmer. Have shrimp tied in a mesh bag cor about a week now

My penguin had carbon in its filter pads so I would think its ok

Carbon is optional. It doesn't effect ur cycling progress!

I have also carbon in my 2 filters and it doesn't interfere with the cycle, mine it take almost 5 weeks, but the shrimp still in the place (normally they have said that it will be gone) maybe because of the sock / little bag factor? But it is better, if you don't want a mess in your tank.
