Decoration rocks homemade

Looking for some rocks about hand size for my 29gl tank. It will have black sand as a substrate. I read somewhere that you can use granite tile from like a Lowe's or something. Just break it up in pieces and place in the tank is this possible? Thanks for any input.

I have some rock out of a freshwater tank I had a few years ago your welcome to it.
pm me if you want it .it's been proven aquarium safe as it's been in my tank over 5 years till I broke it down,
