Digital Thermometer Placrment

Is it ok to place the end of the thermometer under the substrate? If not, why not. I know to place it away from the heater, and it will be in relatively close proximity to the filter.(under and 2-4inches to the side of it)

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I don't see why not?? I'd personally try placing it a few inches from the top for a few days then under the gravel for a few days and see if the readings coincide. .
