I noticed bubbles rising from my driftwood in a few places. At first it was one or two but occasionally it looks like a very very weak bubbler lol. It is heavily planted and in mid cycle. It may be mopani wood as well, it was sold as driftwood in the reptile section at petsmart under the brand all living things. I thought mopani wood sank however because I have had this driftwood weighed down with river rocks for a week and it still hasn't become waterlogged.

What is causing this?

It just the air escaping the wood as its replaced with water. Nothing to worry about.

+1 when I soaked my driftwood in really hot water, it bubbled fast. Usually the hotter the water, the faster air comes out.

Agreed that it's just air bubbles escaping ... however, I don't think you have Mopani DW (unless it had an attached Mopani Tag) since your saying you have to weigh it down. Every Mopani DW I've ever read or heard of sinks. Every once in a while at my Petsmart, I'll come across DW with a Mopani tag laying on it ... but not attached to .. and tell it's not Mopani.

Can you send a picture? If it is Mopani, this would be the first I've heard of one not sinking.
