I have my planted aquarium set up and always thought my fertilizers were in things like Eco-Complete and Flourish Excel that I have in my tank. I've recently learned that if I want to succeed and have my plants thrive dry ferts work well.

I started reading on dry ferts and I've just gotten lost in a world of chemistry and dosing.

I have plenty of types of plants. 75 gallon tank, Finnex Planted Plus, pressurized co2.

Could anyone point in the right direction of wrapping my head around the chemistry of it and dosing? I haven't bought any dry ferts yet because I want t understand what I'm buying.

Go to Green Leaf Aquariums http://greenleafaquariums.com/
PPS-Pro is a system of macro and micro ferts dosed daily.http://greenleafaquariums.com/aquarium-fertilizers-supplements/pps-pro-fertilizer-package.html
With the $30 package you will get micro and macro dry ferts and 2 solution containers. The instructions will provide the amounts of each fert to add to each container. 500 mL of DI water is added to each. A digital scale in grams is recommended. The macro solution includes nitrates. A recommended alternative is to order a third solution container and mixing the nitrates separately. This allows you to reduce or omit the dosing of nitrate because the tank's bioload may be providing sufficient nitrate for plant growth.
The amount of dry ferts provided should allow you to make up quite a few batches of solutions so it is economical to use. You can customize it (more phosphate, less nitrate, etc) as needed.
Hope this helps.
